"APX by Lotus Engineering"

Please find attached some teaser information that we are sending to the
automotive industry and engineering community about "APX by Lotus
Engineering". As a member of the press, we feel that it is important that
you receive this information at the same time.

"APX by Lotus Engineering" will be on show for the two Press Days (28
February and 01 March 2006) on the Lotus Stand (Stand Number 1255, Halls 1 &
2) at the 76th International Motorshow at Geneva.

Created using Lotus Engineering's revolutionary Versatile Vehicle
Architecture (VVA), and designed by Lotus Design, the APX also features a
new 3.0 litre supercharged V6 producing 300hp.


Important Note:
"APX by Lotus Engineering" is not a concept indicating a strategic direction
of Lotus Cars; it is however a brilliant demonstration of VVA, the skills of
the team from Lotus Engineering and what is regarded as the future of niche
vehicle manufacture.

Lotus APX
It's the Lotus MPV-crossover: a seven-seater with four-wheel drive and a supercharged 300bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. It's not a production car, however, but a demonstration of just how versatile Lotus Engineering's Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA) construction system really is. This is the structure which will form the basis of the upcoming Lotus mid-engined sports car, the "new Esprit", seen here in a very different type of vehicle.

The APX is described as a 5+2 seater with an "occasional" row of tiny back seats; its engine is conventionally front-mounted. Its trump card, however, is the relatively light weight of its structure, which is mostly made from stamped and extruded aluminium and bonded together using adhesives, self-piercing rivets and flow-drill screws, reducing the number of welds and mechanical fixings needed - and thus also reducing its cost to build. Weighing 1570kg, it can return 32mpg yet accelerate 0-60mph in five seconds and achieve a top speed of 152mph, not bad for a hefty-looking, high-riding large family vehicle.

Lotus APX
APX is said to be "a feasible prototype close to production", and Lotus reckons it could make up to 30,000 a year. It's unlikely to launch the car on its own and to market it as a Lotus, but is in discussions with clients for whom it could build the vehicle; the APX could also surface under the brand of Proton, Lotus's parent company.

The 3.0-litre V6 engine's a dead cert for production, though: it is expected to appear in the "new Esprit", to be launched in 2008, and it may also be supplied to Lotus's clients.

Ursäkta, en kommentar till !
Snygga backspeglar. Det är en detalj som jag tycker att Lotus aldrig har lyckats få till speciellt bra någonsin. Jämför med vissa Ferrari, Porsche 993, Lamborgini, Honda 2000 osv. Jag tycker att backspeglarna är Elisens tristaste designdetalj. Fast på S2:orna hänger dom ju inte som ledsna hundöron om man råkat stänga dörren för hårt ! Men fula är dom.

Vad har hänt med idéerna om att ha en BMW v8 ?

Enligt de absolut senaste ryktena är det *helt säkert* att nya Esprit från BMWs V10 (samma som i M5/M6) + en Elise 143 hk till sommaren + Europa med 240 hk

Så var det. BMWs V10 var det ju som ryktena talade om.
Gissar att det skulle vara mycket, mycket mera attraktivt, inte minst på den amerikanska respektive tyska marknaden än en egenproducerad V6.

Sen gissar jag att 143 hkr Elise är den nya instegsmodell som man hört talas om snart ett år nu. Vet du vad det blir för motor ? En Toyota även i den Elise-modellen ?
Sen kan man väl förstå att man vill ha mer hästkrafter i Europan om man har för avsikt att konkurrrera med vissa tyska märken.
Men var blir "min" nya Lotus av ? Jag vill ha en Elise med allt det godis som man stoppat in i Track Pack Exige inklusive kompressor. Fast inte väga mer än 800 kg ! Exige GT3 väger 750 kg så det går om dom vill !

Rimlig gissning, då Toyotamotorn hade 143 hk innan den fick det värre VVTi- utförandet.

Urk nej inte Tiptronic, jag har givetvis manuell på boxstern. Paddlarna på ferraris F430 skall väl nu vara så bra att de flesta beställer med F1 lådan istället för manuell.

Ferraris paddel växel system är helt ok, men personligen tyckter jag nog att Lamborghinis E-gear är ännu bättre, men det är ju som med så mkt annat mest en smaksak.
Tiptronic däremot (har jag haft i en boxster... )är jättetrevligt i en personbil men har inget att göra i en sportbil..
